Short distances, gentle slopes and lots of animals make the Pyrenees great for families.
Winter
- Grandvalira, Font-Romeu and Peyragudes have excellent ski schools and snow gardens.
- Try sledging, snowshoeing and dog-sledding at many resorts.
- End the day in a family spa like Balnéa or Caldea (check age rules).
Summer
- Ride a donkey to the Cirque de Gavarnie.
- Take the gondola to the Lac de Gaube.
- Explore the Bétharram caves by boat and train.
- Ride the open carriages of the Train Jaune.
- Visit the Parc de la Préhistoire in Ariège, or the bear park at Borce.
- Spot marmots in high pastures.
Tips
- Choose a base with a range of easy activities, such as Cauterets or Font-Romeu.
- Pack sun protection: UV is strong at altitude.
- Plan short drives; mountain roads take longer than maps suggest.
