Created in 1955, Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici is the only national park in Catalonia, a granite landscape of meandering streams ('aigüestortes' means twisting waters), forests and some 200 lakes.

Getting in

The two main gateways are Espot in the east, for the Estany de Sant Maurici, and the Vall de Boí in the west, for the Aigüestortes plain. Private cars can't drive into the park; shared 4x4 taxis run from Espot and Boí.
